Today we started our first cup run of the season welcoming Parkvilla to an immaculate Higginstown. Parkvilla started the strongest with plenty of early possession but failed to pose a threat to the Raharney goal. Raharney grew into the game and took an early lead when a quick 1-2 between Shayne and Evan and Evans ball over the top put Kon through one on one to finish well. Raharney could’ve increased their lead with chances from Shayne and Daniel, but Parkvilla could’ve levelled before half time but their appeals for a penalty were waved away. Second half started quite even with the best of Raharney’s chances coming from wide play. It was from this wide play in which Raharney got their second when Shayne played the ball out wide to Billy, who’s excellent cross was met by a diving header from Kon found the bottom corner. Raharney could’ve extended their lead again with Adam and Daniel having good chances, however the keeper and the post kept the score 2-0. Raharney got their third when an excellent ball out from the back from Shayne sent Alfie down the left and with keeper coming out to close him down, Alfie kept his composure to round the keeper and finish well from a tight angle to wrap up a fine performance from the lads in blue and white. Tough call again for man of the match today with plenty of good performances from the team, Kon again with 2 goals, plenty of hard work in the middle from our midfielders, and good performances from off the bench from Adam Alex Luke and Stephen. Kyle also put in a solid shift in midfield but it was between our 2 fullbacks for man of the match with Billy just shading it from Evan. Well done Billy. Special mention today for our keeper Robert who travelled back up from the Gaeltacht to get his first clean sheet of the season.
