Raharney utd 2 ⚽⚽
Navan Town Cosmos 2 ⚽⚽
Last week, we welcomed Navan Town Cosmos to Higginstown as we looked to keep the pressure on league leaders OMP in difficult weather conditions. After being bet in the return leg, the lads knew that it would require a big effort to get a good result. However Raharney were slow out of the traps and this allowed Navan to take an early lead. This woke Raharney up and they immediately looked to bounce back. Raharney’s immense pressure was rewarded when Nathan headed in Ruairis cross at the back post to equalise. Raharney were soon given the chance to take the lead when a shot hit the hand of a Navan defender in the box to give Raharney a penalty. Shayne stepped up and made no mistake in powering the ball home to give Raharney the lead heading into the break.
As the second half started the wind grew stronger making it harder for Raharney to clear their lines. Navan used this to their advantage and pressed us high up the pitch but some good defending and some good saves from Jack kept them at bay. Raharney nearly doubled their lead though when Alfie got onto the end of Ruairis corner but saw his finish drift wide of the post. Navan continued to pile on the pressure and were eventually rewarded when a high ball into the box caused havoc and found its way over the goal line to level the game. As both teams pressed for a winner the game became very physical with challenges flying in everywhere. This ultimately resulted in a red card for Navan and a minor brawl on the touch line. Raharney, with the numerical advantage, started to pass the ball around better and started to produce a few half chances. The lads very nearly grabbed a last minute winner when Kyle turned well but saw his shot graze the top of the crossbar in the games final play..
The lads came off the pitch very disappointed and this shows how far they have come this season as a team getting a draw against a strong Navan team wasn't enough for them .
Man of the match today could have went to any of our back 4 but Thomas Byrne showed again how good he is under pressure at right back gets the nod . Well done Thomas! 💯
Keep up the great work! 🔵⚪
