Yesterday evening we welcomed Castlevilla Borora to Higginstown for our first league game in quite a while. 

Raharney got off to a quick start and were unlucky not to take the lead when Kon was put 1 on 1 but the keeper produced a fine save. Shortly afterwards, Kon found himself 1 on 1 again but with Kon trying to round the keeper he was caught and the penalty was awarded. Shayne stepped up and slotted the ball home to make it one nil. 

Raharney doubled there lead shortly afterwards with Kon again be provider for Steven who finished well to the corner. Raharney made it 3 nil when Alfie picked the ball up at the edge of the box and finished well to the bottom corner. Borora to their credit never stopped battling and pulled one back before half time. 

Raharney were slow out of the traps in the second half and this allowed Borora to put our back 4 of Dylan Aaron Thomas and Evan under pressure. They got their reward with 2 quick goals to level the game. 

Raharney to their credit, regained their composure and reestablished their lead with a superb long range effort from Kon nestling into the far corner.  Borora kept coming forward to get back into the game but Raharney defence along with some fine saves from Jack kept them at bay. Raharney got their fifth to restore their 2 goal lead when Nathan’s quick free kick was brilliantly finished by Kyle to make it 5-3. Borora kept pushing forward and scored a long ranged effort to make it 5-4 and leave the last 5 minutes very tense. Borora pressed on but the Raharney midfield of Ruairi and Thomas slotted back in to help the back 4 and Raharney held on for well deserved win. 

Some excellent displays across the pitch tonight with everyone putting in a big shift. But man of the match goes to Kon Geraghty who was excellent throughout with an excellent goal and 2 assists and winning the penalty. Well done Kon. Special mention to Daniel tonight on his return after being out but unfortunately had to go off early after a bang to the head midway through the second half. Wishing him a speedy recovery
